24 year old Bordeaux from Bronx, NY and 20 year old Non Native from Union County, NJ are two of the hottest rising producers. They’ve produced Lil Tjay’s “Zoo York” ft. Pop Smoke and Fivio Foreign, Fivio Foreign ft. Young MA’s “Move like a Boss” and are the only producers to have gotten Meek Mill on a drill beat with Fivio Foreign’s “Demons & Goblins”. Though they’ve gained immense success in the drill scene, their talent extends through every possible genre. In R&B, the duo produced H.E.R’s latest single “Hold on” which premiered on SNL October 24th.
Both Bordeaux and Non Native are heavily influenced by The Neptunes. They both grew up listening to an eclectic array of music from rap, hip hop to Latin music like Bachata, Salsa to Dancehall and Reggae. Boudeaux says: “My parents were first generation immigrants so music was definitely a way for me to make friends and learn about different cultures.”
That early exposure to so much music has most definitely widened their musical palette, having them grow into producers that can conquer any beat.
The dynamic duo admits that Electronic music played a huge part in the beginning of their careers. It’s the genre they started producing first. They both worked as engineers in NYC at Blastoff Studios. They were the only ones producing EDM and so they bonded, and later teamed up and started producing songs together.
When producing, Bordeaux and Non Native like to be in the same room with the artist, due their unique way of recording. “We can flip flop seats at anytime in a session and we both know exactly what to do and how to carry the session on.”
Their creative process is different with every artist and every production as well. They experiment with different sounds and incorporate different styles. Bordeaux and Non Native are not your typical “beat maker” — When they get in the room with an artist, they make the beat, record the artist, aid in the writing process, engineer the track, mix the vocals and master the track at a very accelerated pace. They attribute their quickness and efficiency to the fact that they’ve worked as engineers with so many different artists, and are hence able to lock in and execute in an impressively distinct way.
Not only is their creative process so skillfully singular, Bordeaux and Non Native are able to experiment in all areas of music. They’ve worked with dancehall artists, R&B artists, Rappers – sometimes all in one day. “It’s fun to learn what each genre entails and how music production relates to all genres of music.”
Bordeaux and Non Native are a truly exciting talent. They’re two very talented producers who are down to do it all, and have the musical genius and cleverness to back it up. Their potential is limitless as they’re bound to conquer genre after genre with passion and expertise: “If tomorrow the job is to make country music well then… We on it.”
