On Wednesday, January 22nd, the NBA and basketball world finally got the game they were waiting for. With all the hype surrounding number one overall pick Zion Williamson following his freshmen year at Duke, the time had come to see what the talented rookie could do on the professional level.
Zion Williamson was sidelined during the start of the 2019-20 NBA season due to knee surgery and early on in the season, fans and NBA lovers across the globe wondered if they would even see Zion play this season. First reports after Zion surgery were that he could miss 8 weeks and after that time had come and gone and still no Zion on the court it began to feel like it was destine for him to join the likes of Ben Simmons and Michael Porter Jr. and sit out his entire rookie year.

Well ladies and gentleman, that wasn’t the case and I sure am glad it wasn’t. Last night (Jan.22nd) Zion Williamson made his NBA debut was his New Orleans Pelicans hosted the San Antonio Spurs. Zion struggles slightly in the first half finishing the half with just 2 points but that was not the story of the game. I guess during halftime, Zion called Bugs Bunny for a bottle of the Tune Squad’s “Secret Stuff” because he was on an another level.
In a 3 minute span, Zion Williamson scored 17 points and went (4-4) from three point line. In just 18 minutes of play, Zion finished the night with 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assist on (8-11) shooting from the field. Unfortunately for Pelicans fans, Zion’s performance didn’t result in a Pelicans victory as the Spurs won the game (121-117).
Check out a few highlights from Zion’s debut above. The Pelicans are back in action on Friday night as they host the Denver Nuggets. Stay tuned to HHS1987. Follow @eldorado2452 on Twitter and Instagram for all your sports news.
