The Philadelphia-based annual summer music festival, Litapendence Day, has been a great success this past Saturday, Aug. 7. Founder Freddie Foolay creates a team strong enough to assist in the execution of his vast vision for this year’s third annual Litapendence Day celebration, and the execution is evident. Curated by Freddie Foolay and his label, ‘Live0utUrDreams’, the first ever Litapendence Day began on a simple block in Uptown, Philadelphia. And this year, it has definitely transitioned into a bigger movement.
This summer’s celebration was held at Simon Gratz High School Field, in North Philadelphia. The field had a large, professionally set stage, and the perimeters of the venue were surrounded with several local vendors and food trucks. The set-up was destined for an even larger crowd this go-round. The third time is always a charm. The festival of course started off with nothing other than performances.
The first set included great productions from local artists like, Heem Savage, Azari Jacquan, Don’t Leak, & Da Cooligans. It was also gifted great set from DJ Winner. Post-set, there was a special community-based panel on stage entitled ‘Creatively Breaking The Cage’, looping in the main aspect of the event, sponsored by the ACLU of PA.
Following the panel came the second set, introducing artists: James Allen, Leeyuh Neptune, Seraiah Nicole, Mare, 1K$U, & 100ProofYannie. This set was taken care of by none other than Philly-favorite, DJ Nash.
Lastly, came the headliners of the event. The performances were given by prestigious local artists, BBM China, Noel Scales, BangBangSG, & none other than the main headline, Freddie Foolay himself. These sets were spun by (DJ) Selekta SEXXX.
The crowd was totally engaged and pleased with this year’s Litapendence Day ensemble, and Freddie Foolay’s grand finale performance definitely took the cake. At the end of his set, fans got to enjoy new music and bright fireworks, notifying yet another successful Litapendence Day.
Proceeds from this celebration are being donated to local charities like Heal The Hood, The People’s Paper Co-op, and The Youth Art & Self-Empowerment Project. Stay tuned for next year’s celebration, and learn how you can be apart by following the official #LitapendenceDay page below:
