When you were outside during the blog era, one of the best eras for hip hop enthusiasts worldwide, you know firsthand how special that time was for you. In addition to Mac Miller, Curren$y, Big Sean, Wale, Wiz Khalifa, and J. Cole who flourished as solo artists during this period, there were many others who played a key role in creating a powerful vibe during this period. Although Joey Bada$$ was probably one of the most unsung artists during the blog era, he was probably among the most overlooked. ‘2000’ is the third studio album from the “Devastated” rapper, released today (July 22).
The album follows up on his 2017 release, All-Amerikkkan Badass, 2000 comes just over a month after Joey Bada$$ released his debut, the internationally acclaimed mixtape 1919 (released in June 2012). The singer said in an interview with VIBE at the 2022 BET Awards that fans should expect the following from the upcoming album: “What we should expect from the new album 2000 is the classic Joey sound, know what I’m saying? Joey in his purest form. With this project, you’ll get everything you’ve ever wanted from Joey Bada$$. “I’m looking forward to this.”
The Brooklyn lyricist crafted 14 tracks in collaboration with some solid features that enhanced the sound of the album. Furthermore, Joey linked with Larry June and J.I.D., Joey linked with Chris Brown, Westside Gunn and Capella Grey. Thousands of fans have already hailed it as a classic, and while music is subjective, it speaks volumes when thousands of people echo similar sentiments.
