Here at Hip Hop Since 1897, we got the chance to sit down, and interview Chicago based musician 7pm3, here’s how that went?
1: What first got you into music?
I used to write rhymes when I was a kid before I got INTo sports, but I stopped once I had schedules to follow. I was free-styling one day to “Show me what you got” by Jay-Z & the people @ the gym loved it & told me I should remember that rhyme & record it. Of course you almost never remember what you spit IN a freestyle but I had written another verse for the song & merged it with Hov & Lil Wayne’s verse on the beat & everyone from my neighborhood said I ripped the track apart & was on par with the GREATS who shared the beat with – a few rhymes later 7Pm was born as I started to get booked for shows around the city.
2: Who Inspired you to make music?
My daughter because I always thought it would be a way to make sure her upbringing is better than mine. I’m from Chicago & not the glamorous “Second city” everyone raves about, but the hard grimy streets of Englewood. If you’re looking for an artist as my INspiration(s) it would have to be 2Pac, Rakim & Jay-Z.
3: How would you describe the music you typically create?
I tell anyone that listens that I have my own Genre, & the Genre’s name Soulphisticated Hustle muzik. It’s sophisticated soulful hustle music. I’m “Mr. No Bars Off” for a reason, I’m traditional “hip hop” + where music is headed not where it’s currently at.
4: Who would you most likely want to collaborate with?
Quincy Jones, Kanye West, Scott Storch, Tory Lanes, Fat Money, Musiq Soulchild & Foxy Brown
5: What is your favorite song to perform?
My favorite song to perform would be- “Get Fresh” produced by Trigg Beats lights up any arena/club/venue
