Miami DJ “KammyLife’ recently just dropped a new EP! We sat down with him to understand his creative process and how hip-hop music has influenced his life!
What got you into Hip Hop culture?
Growing up in community housing, hip hop was a great outlet to listen to music and bring the community together.
Ranging from community barbeques and other types of events. I find that hip-hop culture understands the struggles of those who are working to survive, it speaks the truth of the struggles of the everyday family in community housing.
Hip-Hop Music was there for me when I needed it the most and that’s why it will always be a big part and influence of my life.
Who is your biggest influence in hip hop?
For me, my biggest influence was definitely “Nas”.
Growing up in the early ’90s, Nas was a pioneer in the hip-hop game. He understood flow, he didn’t rap about things that were out of reach.
He rapped about struggles, poverty, police issues, living in the projects, and his daily outlook. This really spoke to me at his time in my life.
When did you decide you wanted to be a DJ?
I was always messing around with beats and mixing loops since the age of 14.
The first time I plugged my music into an event and had the crowd moving I was hooked.
I didn’t realize the power of music until you see that the mood and the vibe a DJ creates is everything.
Who’s your favorite producer?
I would say my favorite producer is Tainy, he creates a lot of reggaeton beats with hip-hop mixes.
It relates to many crowds and I feel like his versatility is what makes him also a pioneer in the music industry.
Who is your favorite current artist?
My favorite artist currently is Burna Boy, he has been evolving himself as an artist and creating different vibes both in the African and Northwest.
Who do you want to work with/collab with?
I would love to collaborate with everyone, music is an ever-evolving industry and each genre provides a unique sound.
I’m committed to bringing many different sounds and influence from all over to bring my listeners together!
If you could compare yourself to one artist who would it be?
I don’t compare myself to any other artists because everyone is unique.
But I do love Daniel Parrandas & any old school Hip-hop
music. I often use older hip-hop sounds fused with modern music technology to create a nostalgic yet fresh sound.
What’s your goal with music?
To be able to continue my guaracha house music releases and hope to release a song that is
influential.
If anyone hears your music what kind of vibe should they expect?
House and upbeat tempo with a mix of hip-hop undertone, I want to create a sound that makes you want to dance.
