Dough The Freshkid, also known as DTFK, just released his first full-length album since 2020, with a fourteen-track album that exudes introspection, heart, and tenacity. The West Coast rapper named the project ‘Keys: Keep Evolving Your Self” and he aims to promote a message of positivity within the music.
DTFK born in Gary, Indiana but raised in the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles, CA, embodies that of a West Coast hip-hop artist. Dough has a smooth G-Funk sound mixed with LA nostalgia, heard in the songs on the project such as “Checc N,” featuring Tylo and Annimeanz, and “Say That,” featuring Feezy and TayF3rd, which blends old G-Funk with modern gangsta rap creating a mesmerizing and upbeat sound. But nothing can come close to Dough’s favorite track on the album, “Keys,” which he implies is his best work yet, as he is in the beginning process of a multi-part visual for “Keys.”
“We took our time with ‘Keys,’ so we don’t just want to end it here with just music,” he said. “Hopefully, later in the year, I could bring the world a 7-part video movie series of Keys. We’ve already started production.”
But those high-energy west coast anthems don’t stop there — DTFK brings the heat with other hit tracks like “Chandeliers,” “Top Hat Mobsters,” featuring Cuzzy Capone and Wee Dogg, and “Six Hunnid.” DTFK channels a diverse sound that fills his latest album, Keys: Keep Evolving Yourself, with introspective moments about life and the evolution of self.
“The album title says it all itself,” he says. “Keep evolving yourself. As an independent artist, I’m trying to show growth through my business moves, attitude, and music. The whole goal is to continue to grow and become better than you were yesterday.”
And that is the perfect way to describe the project, “growth,” as DTFK raps about life, love, success, and tribulations of it all, but most importantly, not letting it set him back. As his goal is to Keys: Keep Evolving Yourself.
