Johnny Cocoa debuted the release of his second EP project I AM WHO I AM. The project enlists the work of notable producers Yung Tago (prod. for Rod Wave, YG, YNW Melly, Rylo Rodriguez, Fredo Bang), Coop The Truth (Cordae, Summer Walker, NBA Youngboy, Vory, Tory Lanez), Dylan Graham (Muni Long, Summer Walker, Young M.A, Chris Brown) and collaborative features with fellow artists like Kalan.FrFr.
The nine-track project also includes the recently released single, “Free Bird” which sonically explores themes of free-spirited liberation, breaking free from mental confinements, and a hustle hard mentality to go after what’s yours.
“This project is what the world needs to hear right now,” said Johnny Cocoa. “My hope is that this EP inspires fans to reflect and meditate on how we all connect as a community. You’ll be able feel every emotion as you listen to this album and if people come out of that experience treating each other better, that’s all I can ask for.”
The EP arrives as a special gift to also commemorate the artist’s birthday which fellow hometown creatives and influencers will also be celebrating during an intimate release party event this evening. The project is also a follow up to Johnny’s massively successful track “On God” released earlier this year – which has already accumulated 1.9M+ streams to date and alongside the artist’s 2021 release of To The World where he showcases his artistic versatility through fan favorites “Thuggin’ By My Lonely” and “Man in the Mirror.”
Representing Beaumont, Texas, Johnny continues to make his mark as the next rising artist to break out of the south with a unique sound that blends intricate rap styles with smooth R&B flows – all inspired by his deep childhood roots singing in church. Johnny’s adept cross-genre fusion of hip-hop, R&B and tones of reggae is inspired by icons such as James Brown, Russ, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Drake, and J Cole while rooted in messages of Black power, unity, self-love and the positive progress of society.
The southern artist has already caught the attention and public co-signs of music and pop culture icons such as Drake and Kanye West. With his sharp sense of songcraft, hustle and drive, Johnny continues to carve out his own lane in the music industry with the promise of becoming the world’s next breakthrough sound.
