The musician Kali Uchis recently shared her take on “Desafinado.” Uchis’ version will appear on Jack Antonoff’s Minions: The Rise of Gru soundtrack, which is set to be released this summer. This song was popularized in the early 1960s by Joao Gilberto and Stan Getz, however, Kali Uchis offers her own take on the recognizable lyrics:
There are also more 1970s covers on the upcoming Minions soundtrack, by Brittany Howard, St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, and more. The album also features Diana Ross and Tame Impala (“Turn Up the Sunshine”). The official release of the album is scheduled for July 1, timed to coincide with the premiere of the film.
She followed this up in 2020 with her sophomore album, Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), an entirely Spanish album that also featured Rico Nasty, Jowell & Randy, and PARTYNEXTDOOR and Jhay Cortez. As noted above, the DMV star teamed up with SZA for a remix of her standout single, “Fue Mejor.” In June, she released an acoustic version of Sin Miedo for fans to enjoy.
