After an eight-year break spent focusing on production and songwriting, rapper Munnie will release a new project on August 26th, “Unexpected,” via Dividend Music and BGE.
The lead track, Pilot calls upon the production of Ric & Thadeus and aims to set a strong tone for what’s to come. The production duo delivers once again in ‘Pilot’, who found success with co-production on Juice WRLD’s “Long Gone” alongside Cardo for the album Goodbye and Good Riddance, which went on to sell over one million copies domestically, earning them an RIAA Platinum Certification; and their production on the song “¿Quien Tu Eres?” on Bad Bunny’s debut album X100 pre would earn an RIAA Diamond (Latin) Certification as well.
Munnie rose to the spotlight over 10 years ago on the strength of his classic mixtape run including “Munnie Jordan” – which has accumulated over 1,000,000 on demand streams in the United States, according to online data. Munnie Jordan featured two successful collaborations with Chief Keef, and Bussin’ Bandz with Lil’ Durk. He stepped away from full time MC duties in 2014 shortly after the release of ‘Feelingz’ featuring Yo Gotti to focus on producing and songwriting for other artists.
Back with a visible chip on his shoulder: Munnie raps “I made a promise to get a check / N— thought I fell off / Boy I needed that..”. The BGE general taps into a renewed cadence and flow while the metaphors still effortlessly catch your attention.
An early version of Pilot appeared briefly on Soundcloud late last week, but was taken down shortly after. Pilot officially releases on streaming platforms and as a Limited CD 8/19. Dividend Music’s, Keefe teased a snippet to a second track, Tuesday morning through Instagram.
