A rising artist with talent, My Favorite Color reveals a new shade of his artistry with every release. Slowing down the tempo as he explains how he really feels, My Favorite Color shares “Cut Me In,” his new single. A change of pace from recent singles that showed off the artist’s manic and lyrical side, “Cut Me In” is languid and introspective, layering atmospheric synths atop trap-style percussion. Rather than attacking the beat, My Favorite Color sits back, finessing the contours of the instrumental with warbling melodies. The song finds the artist-born Anthony Willis using a defiant, yet exhausted sigh as he confronts gatekeepers and two-faced friends who act differently in public and in private. The immersive “Cut Me In” follows in the wake of singles like the sardonic “Frustrated,” which racked up over 400k views, and the kinetic “Dead It,” which dropped last month with a colorful video.
Following the release of his deeply personal debut album Velma in 2020, My Favorite Color used 2021 to show off his technical rhyming chops, keen sense of visuals, and absurdist sense of humor. The artist followed “Old News” with “Mayday,” a jazzy and off-kilter banger, a lyrical showcase that veers to every corner of the rapper’s mind, mixing party-positive flexes with tongue-twisting geopolitical analysis.
My Favorite Color is currently hard at work on his next project, a wide-ranging effort that properly continues the story he started with Velma. Stay tuned for much more music and eye-popping videos from My Favorite Color in the coming weeks and months on the road to the new album.
