New York-based British-Nigerian R&B/Afro-Pop artist Demi Grace made history as the first Nigerian model and woman with locs to be featured in a major hair commercial for Pantene Gold Series. Now, she’s ready to show the world that her talents extend far beyond modeling with the release of her latest album Blackcurrant.
During her first 7-city tour in 2018, Demi was discovered by Ebro Darden and was featured on his Beats1 Radio show Discovered on Apple Music. Prior to that, she performed as a dancer with Beyonce at the VMA’s and Solange at the Guggenheim. In addition to her tour, Demi has performed at Essence Festival, Notting Hill Carnival, House of Blues LA, Lincoln Center, and Webster Hall and her music videos have been played on BET, TRACE, and MTV Base.
Spanning 10 tracks, including the highlight single “Clingy,” Blackcurrant explores the life and perspective of a Black British woman from the African Diaspora in the US. Named after Demi’s favorite sweet flavor, the project highlights sex, romance and self-esteem and offers a fresh take on how this type of woman feels in relationships vs. who she’s expected to be (which IMO, a lot of women and men can relate to). Blackcurrant will be accompanied by a visual album due later this year which will display a similar take on what this type of woman looks like in comparison to what the media expects her to be.
