With his magnetic presence and versatile arsenal of flows, SNUPE BANDZ is a true Memphis original. Connecting with slick street rapper Bankroll Freddie, SNUPE shares his new video for “Green Beam,” a standout from the recent BOYZ N THE HOOD joint album with his Paper Route Empire labelmate, PaperRoute Woo. Over an ominous trap instrumental that resonates with the feeling of lurking danger, SNUPE and Freddie welcome listeners into a high-stakes world where only the tough can last: “You can’t come to Block 19 if we ain’t never seen you/I might pop out with them killers, they gon’ green beam you.”
The video for “Green Beam” is presented like a piece of immersive journalism, inviting listeners to SNUPE’s perilous home turf of Block 19, as it kicks off with a warning: “The footage you are about to see is from the notorious Block 19– a place where most are not welcome.” As the video progresses through found footage-style cuts through handheld video and security cameras, it’s increasingly clear that the difference between a smooth visit and one that goes sideways is entirely in SNUPE’s hands, as strangers and adversaries are dealt with at discretion.
On BOYZ N THE HOOD, released in October, SNUPE and Woo’s Southern synergy is felt throughout its 15 tracks. SNUPE BANDZ and PaperRoute Woo have a long history of collaborations, dating back to 2020’s “In My Bag” and continuing through last year’s “Pop Out,” which drew 1.8 million YouTube views. Both SNUPE and Woo joined their mentor Young Dolph on “Nothing To Me,” a standout single from last year’s PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi mixtape, generating over 9 million views, and they later took the stage in remembrance of their role model during a tribute set at Rolling Loud California 2021. The two Memphis natives made memorable appearances on Paper Route Empire Presents: Long Live Dolph, the recent PRE compilation tape: SNUPE shined on his solo showcase “I Know Why,” and connected with Joddy Badass for the sensual “I Like,” while Woo flashed his mastery of flow in “Fully Equipt.”
