Multiplatinum hip-hop artist and entrepreneur E-40 announced the launch of his new ice cream that falls under his “Goon With The Spoon” food brand umbrella, which will be available at select stores and comes with six flavors, including Cookie Dough, Bourbon Vanilla, Vanilla Bean, Strawberry, Mint Chocolate and Salted Caramel.
The launch of the “Goon With The Spoon” ice cream has been four years in the making for the legendary Bay Area hip-hop artist. E-40’s ice cream was made using solar power and is a healthier alternative that features dairy without the artificial growth hormone, rBST.
The announcement comes six months after E-40 originally unveiled his new food brand – called “Goon With The Spoon” – and kicked it off with the introduction of his new line of packaged sausages and burritos. As part of his expansion into the culinary industry, he also partnered with Justin Kinder (of Kinders Meats, Deli and BBQ) to leverage his expertise in the meat industry and help launch several different sausage flavors for Goon with The Spoon, including Teriyaki Pineapple Chicken Sausage, Philly Cheesesteak Chicken Sausages, Hot Beef Sausages, Mild Beef Sausages and Choices (Yum) Sausage Bundle, along with Turf Burritos.
As you may know, the inspiration for the “Goon With The Spoon” brand name came from E-40’s music catalog. As a musician, he rapped about being a “Goon With The Spoon” in songs like “Back in Business” and “I Get Down (feat B-Legit)” as an innovative metaphor to describe his entrepreneurial hustle and ambition.
E-40 is a chef and his passion for the culinary arts stems from his childhood upbringing in the inner city. With his mother balancing three jobs, E-40 took the initiative to teach himself how to cook and equipped himself with the tools and recipes to prepare hearty meals for his siblings. During his teenage years, he landed a position at a high-end restaurant, where he learned to make gourmet meals – such as chicken cordon bleu and sauteed mussels with wine sauce and butter – that spurred his interest in food to this day.
The ice cream adds to E-40’s robust food and liquor empire that he’s established. Last month, he introduced two new wine flavors to his robust “Earl Stevens Selections” wine brands – Blueberry and Orangesicle – to add to his vast portfolio of 15+ still and sparkling wines. His inaugural product was the Function Red Blend in 2013 which he named after his smash single “Function” before he went on to release the Sweet Red, Chardonnay, Mangoscato, Moscato, and Tropiscato, among several others.
