Mayurath Sinh popularly known as “ILLAH” or by his instagram “@INDIASONLY” , is a Compton based artist who has been on making a name for himself and has a slow but steadily rising following that has shown him unwavering support for being himself. He is one of those few people of Indian origin that has been accepted by the hip hop community especially in the west coast as he has connected and bridged the gap between the Indian stereotype and hip hop urban culture. Some of his singles like
“Blessed” and “711” have been catching the attention of a large number of listeners while some of his older music that talks about suicide awareness and sheds light on mental heath and bullying have crossed over a million streams across various streaming platforms.
The 26 year old’s recent single “Who Is He” made a notable debut by securing the #83 spot on the Top 100 Apple iTunes Charts in the hip-hop music category then it proceeded to go up to #50 #34 and #17 within the same week of it’s release. Sinh’s story is definitely unique as he carries not only his culture on his back but also has managed to make a name in Los Angeles’ local scene having worked and teased work with some of the biggest artists on the west coast such as platinum artists 03 Greedo, Blueface, Big Sad 1900 and many others. Los Angeles County has always been a melting point of cultures and immigrants but Mayurath is a living testament of cultural diversity in America as we celebrate 50 plus years of hip hop and embrace him. Besides being a very talented artist, he’s also a world record holding audio engineer and has written for some big name artists like Akon.
In his latest music video, he teams up with San Pedro, CA based DT Productions to deliver a viral new music video to his single “Scavenger” produced by DamnPocket who has credits working closely with Top Dog Entertainment famously known for being home to Grammy Winning Artists Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock. The music video is shot in the form of a mic – performance style edit in the heart of the vibrant city of Compton at the infamous Louisiana’s Fried Chicken on Rosecrans And Central. The choice of location was to pay homage to lyrics mentioned by the rapper as the place used to be a staple for him and his now late best friend Joseph Fomby also known as “Sosa” to frequently visit says the 26 year old.
He’s definitely a very unique asset in the west coast world because of his background and his talent. His choice of smooth but aggressive beats with lyricism is helping him build a cult-like fan base almost and it’s only a matter of time before the world wakes up. Until then we are eagerly waiting for more music from ILLAH.
