King Von established himself as one of his generation’s most vital storytellers, offering breathless intensity and visceral detail to animate the environment of his upbringing. Today, the late rapper’s estate announces his next album, Grandson, coming soon. Lovingly assembled by Von’s closest collaborators, including producer Chopsquad DJ, the upcoming album features the same street sagas and invigorating anthems fans have come to expect. Featuring guest spots from some of Von’s heavy-hitting street rap peers, including his vulture Lil Durk, Grandson arrives July 14th via EMPIRE.
Along with the announcement of Grandson, Von’s estate shares “Heartless,” a brand new collaboration between Von and Detroit don Tee Grizzley. Produced by Chopsquad DJ, “Heartless” is a cold blooded recounting of Von’s past, and the remorseless mentality he was forced to adapt to survive. Tee Grizzley’s deadpan stick talk is an ideal complement to Von’s energetic delivery. “Heartless” quickly follows “Robberies“ (3.9 million views) a single from Grandson, which illustrates Von’s peerless storytelling ability with a cinematic video, which has continued to place on YouTube’s Trending charts since its late June release.
Grandson is the follow-up to Von’s acclaimed posthumous album What It Means To Be King, released in March 2022. A labor of love that compiles unheard music from the artist’s vault, What It Means To Be King is home to “Don’t Play That” ft. 21 Savage, one of Von’s most successful singles to date, reaching #40 on the Billboard Hot 100, climbing into the Top 10 of the Hot Rap Songs chart, and compiling 55 million streams on Spotify alone. The album made a massive splash when it debuted in March 2022, reaching #2 on the Billboard 200 behind 59k first-week album-equivalent units sold, en route to hundreds of millions of streams to date across platforms.
Stay tuned for more announcements about Grandson, coming July 14th via EMPIRE.
