New Jersey Hip-Hop veteran Rasheed Chappell has just shared the announcement of his forthcoming project Sugar Bills – out 9/15 via Perfect Timing Music Group, along with a new video single “1520”. As an integral member of the gritty Hip-Hop collective TRUST Gang alongside his contemporaries 38 Spesh, Ransom, Che Noir, Klass Murda & others, Rasheed Chappell is a seasoned emcee who has become known for his vivid wordplay and uncanny ability to paint pictures through his language within his raps. Although Rasheed is a product of the traditional Hip-Hop that thrived in the genre’s Golden Era, he simultaneously combines his work ethic and constant evolution as a spirited emcee, to create an organic movement that still shows no signs of slowing down. Rasheed Chappell made a stand-out solo appearance on “Midnight Sunday” off of HOT97 host Peter Rosenberg’s 2021 compilation album Real Late, and has done collaborations with an extensive list of legendary producers like Diamond D, Buckwild, Apollo Brown & Kenny Dope. After teaming up with New York producer Little Vic for the introspective album A Portrait Of last year, Rasheed Chappell is returning with the rollout of Sugar Bills, which is produced entirely by The Arcitype, to commemorate 50 Years of Hip-Hop in 2023 – beginning with the poetic lead single “1520”.
Rasheed Chappell’s new single “1520” represents a tasteful homage to the birthplace of Hip-Hop (1520 Sedgwick Avenue). Over an instrumental that exudes a dusty aesthetic, and comes complete with a twinkling piano loop and an infectious drumline, Rasheed Chappell flexes his masterful lyricism and tight-knit rhyme schemes. “Bang, bang, boogie, your brain stain your hoodie / What you get when you fuckin’ with me / This a whole ‘nother caliber, shit’ll be a massacre, you dealin’ with a super-emcee”, he raps through an authoritative cadence on the track’s hook. With Rasheed’s candid reflections and stunning bar work on full display, “1520” serves as a revealing glimpse of what’s to come on the forthcoming Sugar Bills – out 9/15, via Perfect Timing Music Group with features from 38 Spesh, Rome Streetz, Jasmine Lopez & others.
