Virginia based rapper Itz Prof returns with “R.I.F. (Resting in Faith),” a fun track that encourages a positive attitude about having faith that everything is going to work out despite all that’s going on now or what’s happened in the past. “R.I.F.” is the follow up to Prof’s previous singles “Last Road” & “Good Dope” which both made it into the Top 100 on Mediabase’s Urban Radio Airplay chart in the U.S as well as the Top 10 on the Mediabase’s Urban Indie Label Airplay Chart. Prof aims to do the same with “R.I.F.” while expanding into new markets with a newer and more positive sound.
Prof’s previous releases were great but something special happened when he switched his style up. Previous releases were more aggressive, fast paced raps with crunk or trap undertones and told stories of what Prof’s done and seen in the streets. His new sound is still Rap, but the subject matter has changed to a more self reflective tone and he’s included elements of country and pop. The 808’s and drums still hit and the bars are still there, but there’s catchier melodies and contagious guitars that add a ‘Feel good,’ and highly relatable vibe to the songs.
When asked about his new sound Prof says “I don’t really know if I even have a ‘sound’ per se. I think I’m just open and unafraid to go wherever the music takes me. I don’t think I sound like anyone. I don’t think what I do has actually been done before. I found my own lane. Mainly because no one else wanted me in theirs!“
He’s definitely found his lane with a sound that seems to be an ode to the backroads that he grew up on. Prof was born and raised in the sticks of South West, Virginia, but due to his work ethic his name has traveled way further than those country roads.
His first official release spans back over 15 years ago and since then he’s built a strong catalog of 10 mixtapes and 50 videos. He’s also worked with the likes of DJ Khaled, CASKEY, Tom Macdonald, and has toured with notable acts such as Nipsey Hussle. Prof always seemed 1 hit away from being the ‘Next Big” thing, but after two overdoses and multiple arrests it seemed as if his career was burning out. Then out of the blue “Good Dope” sky rocketed to the charts and played for about 6 months straight around the country.
Since then Prof has released multiple new successful mixtapes and an album Better Late Than Never on the heels of new single “Last Road (Asshole)” which hit the top 100 on the Mediabase urban radio charts making it his second single in a row to hit the top 100. Prof took notice of the reception to his new sound and embraced it fully. He’s in the studio cranking out soon to be heard hits. With great music and determination Prof is definitely an artist to look out for!
