We recently had the opportunity to catch up with Pittsburgh’s rising star, Baby Egypt, to discuss his rapid rise to international superstardom, his viral hits, and his plans for the future. Here’s what he had to say:
Interviewer: How does it feel to go from a local celebrity in Pittsburgh to an international superstar?
Baby Egypt: Almost surreal, not gonna lie! I feel like Hannah Montana right now.
Interviewer: Is there any difference between pushing your music in America than in Africa?
Baby Egypt: The love and feedback are a bit faster, I want to say. In America, it takes longer for people to become real fans of you and your music. The support is a little stronger overseas.
Interviewer: I see your music is in Brazil. How did that come about, and how did you manage to get that in another entirely different continent?
Baby Egypt: Honestly, just the support that I was getting in Africa with the crazy radio play and people dancing to the song “Sorry4 The Hasbeens.” A DJ in Brazil hit one of the promoters up in Africa, and my AKP just alley-ooped the opportunity and blessing to me.
Interviewer: What’s your plan? Do you have any more afrobeat projects coming for your international fan base?
Baby Egypt: Yes, definitely! DistroKid just gave me back a lot of my music, so I’ll be releasing a lot more music in America and internationally! Stay tuned, family!
Interviewer: How do your fans in the States feel about your international success trending on TV and radio right now?
Baby Egypt: Aw man, it’s nothing but love! Of course, some hate from people who can’t believe it, but overall, LOVE. My supporters, fans, family let me know they’re proud of me more than ever right now. I appreciate it for real. A lot more work to do though, you know!
Interviewer: Please, if you may, tell us how “Sorry4 The Hasbeens” went viral on TikTok and in Africa?
Baby Egypt: Well, just grinding, pushing music, posting it on my Instagram and social media. Somebody in Africa recorded a video listening to it, then a little girl, Princess Annabel, made a TikTok to it, and it was just a wrap after that. It sprinkled down to America with a couple of TikTok celebrities dancing to it too.
Interviewer: When did your single “Wit Da Gang” first premiere on TV, and how can we check it out?
Baby Egypt: About a week ago, literally! It’s crazy… A podcast in Pittsburgh called PittsburghChatter shared the video on his gram, and I reposted it. Literally, some folks from Africa hit me saying they loved it and wanted it on Rave TV and Trend FM 100.9. You can check it out for yourself by downloading the mobile app AVO TV. And I’m on three times a day in heavy rotation on channel 107 Rave TV.
