(HipHopSince1987.com) recently had the opportunity to sit down with Tony DeYoung, who shared with us the heartbreaking news of his grandfather Alvah DeYoung’s passing. Alvah was more than just a grandfather to Tony; he was a hero, a mentor, and a guiding light who helped shape Tony into the man he is today.
HH1987: Tony, I’m deeply sorry to hear about the loss of your grandfather, Alvah DeYoung. Can you tell us a little bit about him and the impact he had on your life?
Tony DeYoung: Man, where do I even start? My grandfather Alvah was the real MVP. He took my brother and me in when we were going through a tough time with our mom. He could’ve easily said no and enjoyed his retirement, but instead, he chose to give us a second chance at life. He taught us the importance of hard work, respecting women, and treating everyone equally. He was a true hero and someone I’ve always looked up to.
HH1987: That’s incredible. It’s clear that your grandfather had a profound impact on your life. How are you coping with his passing?
Tony DeYoung: To be honest, it’s been tough. He passed away just a couple of days ago, and it still feels surreal. But I’m trying to focus on celebrating his life and the lessons he taught me. He was an amazing man, and I feel blessed to have had him in my life.
HH1987: Your grandfather’s military service is certainly something to be proud of. Can you tell us a little bit about his time in the army?
Tony DeYoung: Yeah, my grandfather was a proud veteran. He served in the military, and it’s something that he was always proud of. His funeral will have a military presence, honoring his service to the country. It’s going to be a tough day, but I know he’d want us to celebrate his life and legacy.
HH1987: Tony, thank you for sharing your story with us. Is there anything you’d like to say to your grandfather or to our readers?
Tony DeYoung: Just that I love him and I’m going to miss him dearly. To our readers, I’d like to ask that you take a moment of silence to honor my grandfather’s memory. He was an amazing man, and I’m grateful to have had him in my life.
HH1987: Tony, thank you again for sharing your story with us. Our condolences go out to you and your family during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Alvah DeYoung. Your legacy will live on through the countless lives you touched, including that of your beloved grandson, Tony DeYoung.
