Dallas rapper Mo3 was a singular talent who dazzled listeners with his soulful vocals and technical skill. He touched the hearts of his fans with a unique brand of raw street gospel. Today, his estate partners with his record label, H$M Music / EMPIRE, to officially release Legend, the second posthumous album by Mo3. Dropping on what would’ve been Mo’s 32nd birthday, Legend features unreleased gems from Mo3’s vault, plus new collaborations with artists who knew or were inspired by the late rapper, such as BigXThaPlug, That Mexican OT, Fredo Bang, NoCap, Finesse2Tymes, and more.
Legend is home to recent singles like the Texas anthem “AR” ft. BigXThaPlug & That Mexican OT, the street savvy “Blood Money” ft. Finesse2Tymes and the heartwrenching “Tidal Wave.” One standout among the newly released songs include “Time & Time Again,” which features strong verses from fellow melodic savant Fredo Bang and ATL’s own Money Man. Meanwhile, tracks like “Body” and “For Real” showcase the full range of Mo’s vocal prowess. Throughout the tracklist, what remains consistent is the care and authenticity Mo’s team brought to the production of this project, unleashing songs from the vault that prove how special a talent he truly was.
Arriving alongside the album is a video for “Time & Time Again” ft. Fredo Bang & Money Man. Bringing poweful melodic vocals, the trio reflects on the hardships they faced over the years and how they’ve overcome them. The video, directed by Wet Visuals, is set in a prison, delivering a powerful message about life behind bars. It also pays tribute to Mo3, flashing to clips of him smiling and spending time with loved ones.
Legend is the proper follow-up to Shottaz 4Eva (Deluxe), the 2021 posthumous album by Mo3. Peaking at #36 on the Billboard 200, the Shottaz 4eva album was a loving tribute to the rapper by those who loved him, welcoming guest appearances from Morray, Derez De’Shon, Foogiano, and Mo’s friend and longtime collaborator Boosie Badazz. Shottaz 4Eva (Deluxe) is home to “Outside (Better Days)” ft. OG Bobby Billions, a heartbreaking account of street life that has become one of Mo3’s most popular songs. The song spent multiple weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, racked up over 176 million YouTube views on its video (dedicated to Mo’s memory), generated over 59 million Spotify streams, and earned a spot on Barack Obama’s list of favorite songs of 2021.
Though Mo3 is no longer with us, his legacy continues to inspire a new wave of melodic rap. The artist animated the streets in Texas and beyond with songs like “Everybody,” which has over 100 million streams across platforms, and the Sam Cooke-sampling “Long Time Coming,” plus beloved albums like Osama and Badazz Mo3 (a collaboration with Boosie). The late artist’s family and team will continue to release music that he was able to record before his untimely passing. In the meantime, we honor Mo3 and his contributions to hip-hop: stand by for Legend.
