The transit officers took him to Sing Sing Correctional Facility for the night before returning him to Lakeview Shock the next morning. There, he sat in his cell, numb with the knowledge that his mother was gone. He cried uncontrollably, feeling the weight of the loss but knowing that he was now completely alone. The only person he could depend on was himself.
In the aftermath of his mother’s death, Donny became more determined than ever. He threw himself into his education, earning his GED while finishing the bootcamp program. Upon his release, he walked out of those gates, feeling the weight of loneliness but with an unwavering belief that he was destined for greatness. If his music had been able to keep his mother fighting for life, then it would be the force that would push him forward—pushing for a better future for himself and, more importantly, for his children.
