After four years since the release of his last project, Multi-Platinum, Grammy-nominated rapper and singer Morray has just dropped his comeback mixtape Long Story Short out now via Empire Records along with a new live performance video for “Mud Baby”. The 12-track tape arrives on the heels of recent singles “Breakthrough”, “F.T.A. (Failure to Appear)”, and “Out The Hole”, which have seen Morray emerge with a newfound faith and self-belief in his craft after persevering through years of industry struggles. After only putting out a handful of songs the past few years, the rapper is now making his triumphant return to the music scene with Long Story Short, a project that serves as his grand reintroduction to the rap game.
Hailing from Fayetteville, North Carolina, Morray balanced the full-time roles of fatherhood and a 9-to-5 job with his dreams of becoming an artist, fusing elements of soul and gospel music with the grit of Southern street rap. He turned real-life tales of pain and struggle into exultant raps so compelling that he nearly became a household name with just one song, “quicksand”, which amassed over 200 million views on YouTube alone and became one of 2020’s biggest breakthrough tracks. In 2021, he released his debut major label mixtape, Street Sermons, which garnered critical acclaim and earned him a coveted spot on the the 2021 XXL Freshmen cover.
Later that year, Morray appeared on J. Cole’s Platinum-selling album The Off-Season, delivering a soulful chorus and interpolating a rap classic on the 21 Savage-featuring “m y . l i f e”, a 2x Platinum record with over 42 million streams that also received two nominations at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. Morray also recently toured alongside J. Cole on his The Off-Season Tour and dropped collaborations with Cordae (“Still Here”), Benny The Butcher (“Never Fail”), and Lil Tjay (“High Price”).
