From San Antonio, Texas to Edmond, Oklahoma, R&B artist Ron C Walters continues his remarkable journey as a nine-time Grammy ballot artist with the submission of his latest single “You I Adore” for Grammy consideration in the Best R&B Song category. Describing his music as “real music, real vocals, music for the soul from love,” Walters represents the resilience and dedication of independent artists who navigate the music industry without major label backing. His consistent presence on the Grammy ballot across multiple years and categories demonstrates not only artistic persistence but also a commitment to creating authentic R&B music that emphasizes heartfelt lyricism and vocal clarity. In this exclusive interview, we explore Walters’ creative philosophy, his independent approach to music-making, and his vision for preserving traditional R&B values in today’s digital landscape.

  1. As a nine-time Grammy ballot artist who has consistently submitted work across different years and categories, what drives your persistence in the Grammy process, and how has this journey shaped your approach to creating music?

Ron C Walters:  What drives my persistence is a dream I’ve had to have good music that people love that lasts.  Creation process is real life experienced feelings through music & lyrics.

  1. You describe “You I Adore” as “real music, real vocals, music for the soul from love.” In an era where R&B continues to evolve and blur genre boundaries, how important is it to you to maintain these traditional R&B sensibilities while still appealing to modern audiences?

Ron C Walters:  It’s one of these most important because the originality of soul comes from that real live sound you can’t get from digital but digital drums I think makes the modern vibe.

  1. Operating as an independent artist from San Antonio Tx/Ok, places you outside the traditional music industry hubs. How has your geographic location and independent status influenced your music-making process, and what advantages or challenges have you encountered?

Ron C Walters:  No challenges what so ever! Music is universal regardless of where you’re from.  If you stay true to yourself your roots will display themselves for all to hear the best advantage, though is that it’s real nothing fake, which is what people are. We are not robots. We are people.

  1. The independent music landscape faces significant challenges with thousands of tracks uploaded daily to streaming platforms. Beyond Grammy submissions, what strategies do you employ to ensure your music reaches listeners who value authenticity and emotional resonance in R&B?

Ron C Walters:  Strategy is just to  be real and people will see real.  Authenticity and emotional resonance is part of being real.  Stay true and the organic will flow.

  1. Looking beyond “You I Adore,” what’s your vision for contributing to the broader R&B conversation, and how do you plan to continue building your career while maintaining your commitment to artistic independence and emotional authenticity?

Ron C Walters:  My vision is to keep it organic and original one day at a time the rest takes care of itself.

Ron C Walters’ journey exemplifies the dedication and resilience required to succeed as an independent R&B artist in today’s competitive landscape.
