A Musical Journey That Started at Age 5
Tay Larae’s love for music began early. At just five years old, her mother enrolled her in their church choir—an experience that sparked her love for singing and performing. That passion carried her through years of school choir, concert band, and ultimately a full-ride marching band scholarship to Lane College.
“That’s when I fell in love with my voice,” she recalls. “Music has been in my life forever.”
From Background Vocals to Center Stage
Her transition from musician to recording artist began in high school, where friends who made music encouraged her to lay background vocals on their tracks. The positive feedback fueled her confidence—and soon, Tay was writing and recording her own music.
Since then, she’s taken her craft seriously, cultivating a lane she describes as “hustle music.”
“Almost every song I make is about getting up and getting some money,” Tay explains. “Of course I’ve got some sexy music, but a lot of my music is about leveling up.”
A Creative Process Rooted in Vision
Tay’s process is simple and effective—find the right beat, visualize the flow, then bring it to life.
“I like to punch in too. It makes the song sound clearer,” she says.
Her dream collab? Detroit’s own Kash Doll, an artist she calls “a real boss.”
And if she could open for anyone, she’s choosing Latto, confident she could turn the energy all the way up.

Despite being early in her career, Tay Larae is grounded—and grateful.
“No support goes unnoticed. Anybody supporting me now, I truly appreciate it and I’ll always remember it.”
