MIAMI (AP) — Egypt Brown, founder of Fight 4 Mental Health, has entered the esports arena with the creation of the X Factors — a highly rated NBA 2K Rec team designed to inspire, entertain, and build a culture that connects gaming, basketball, and mental health.

Brown, who currently ranks No. 1 in the world in assists on NBA 2K, said the X Factors were created to engage younger audiences and use gaming as a force for good. “The X Factors are more than a team,” Brown said. “We built this movement to be about community. Basketball, gaming, and hip-hop are the languages of this generation — and we’re blending them to show how competition and culture can support mental health.”

Basketball at the Core

Basketball has always been central to the X Factors’ identity. Just as the sport shaped playgrounds and street corners, it now drives digital courts where players battle in front of global audiences. The rhythm of the game mirrors the beat of hip-hop — fast, unpredictable, and expressive.

“The same way hip-hop gave a voice to the streets, basketball gives a rhythm to community,” Brown said. “Gaming is just the next arena for that energy. It’s about taking the culture forward.”

In NBA 2K, Brown and his teammates channel that rhythm into movement, strategy, and highlight-worthy plays. Their matches showcase not only technical skill but also the swagger of hip-hop and the storytelling of basketball.

Music Meets Movement

Brown is extending that cultural connection even further with an upcoming Fight 4 Mental Health album that merges hip-hop with the message of wellness. The project is designed to give voice to the struggles and triumphs of athletes and gamers alike, blending beats and lyrics with a message of hope.

“Music is medicine too,” Brown said. “We want the same energy that fuels the X Factors on the digital court to be heard in the music. Hip-hop has always been about telling real stories — and we’re telling ours through the Fight 4 Mental Health album.”

The album will serve as another bridge, linking sports fans, gamers, and music lovers into one conversation around culture and mental health.

Building a Movement Beyond Gaming

The X Factors are not about pushing gamers to spend on virtual coins or temporary extras. Instead, they focus on creating something lasting. Members can access branded apparel, highlight reels, and unique community experiences — building identity the same way hip-hop artists built movements around mixtapes, crews, and cultural influence.

This emphasis on culture over transactions aligns with the mission of Fight 4 Mental Health: to create environments where people grow together.

Gaming as the Future

For Fight 4 Mental Health, the move into esports is a strategic shift to influence the next generation. Boxing, polo, and live events have built the brand’s credibility, but gaming — with its global reach and cultural overlap with basketball and hip-hop — opens new doors.

“Gaming is the future, and it’s already shaping culture,” Brown said. “We want to make sure mental health is part of that conversation — just like hip-hop shaped identity and basketball gave people an outlet, gaming can do the same.”

What’s Ahead for the X Factors

The team is preparing “100 for 100K,” a showcase featuring over 100 games and a $100,000 prize pool. Structured around leaderboards, buy-ins, and finals, the series is designed to keep fans, bettors, and players engaged.

“The X Factors deliver electrifying competition where every pass, play, and point matters,” Brown said. “But more than that, we’re building a culture. Basketball is essential, hip-hop is essential, and gaming is where it all meets. That’s the future we’re creating — one that’s competitive, cultural, and healthy.”

With the X Factors, Egypt Brown and Fight 4 Mental Health are showing that esports can be more than digital competition — it can be a cultural movement at the intersection of sports, music, and mental wellness.
