Shotta Kush is proving the value of patience and authenticity with his latest release, “Tales of a Lonesome Trapper, Pt. 1.” The four-song EP, which arrived in August, includes the standout single “Suburban Identity Crisis” and highlights Shotta’s ability to merge haunting melodies with personal lyricism.
The Charlotte-based artist considers this project his most polished yet. “I took my time with this music,” he says. “Every track needed to reflect the work I’ve put in and the experiences I’ve lived through.” From the opening moments to the final notes, the EP captures a balance of atmosphere and honesty that defines his artistic direction.
Shotta’s story adds weight to the release. Originally from New Rochelle, New York, his path led him through Michigan and Miami Gardens before he built his foundation in Charlotte. Alongside his pursuit of music, he has lived with glaucoma and bipolar disorder—daily challenges that not only tested his perseverance but also gave him a depth many artists don’t reach.
“Tales of a Lonesome Trapper, Pt. 1” showcases that depth clearly. Tracks like “Suburban Identity Crisis” reflect on cutting ties with people who weren’t aligned with his goals, while others dig into loyalty, independence, and the grind required to build something lasting. “I feel like this is the most cohesive, well-written music I have ever released,” he says. “Sonically and lyrically, it’s where I want to be.”
With a distribution deal through Empire, Shotta has resources behind him, but he’s candid about the realities of breaking into the industry. “I got a distribution deal with Empire, but that’s not doing anything for me really,” he admits. His focus, however, isn’t just on industry validation—it’s on creating a sustainable path forward. “Success is being able to take care of my mother and I and not having to trap anymore.”
This project marks a shift from Shotta’s earlier music, which leaned heavily into raw trap, toward a more melodic and layered approach. His influences—ranging from Future and Drake to Money Man and Anuel AA—are present, but his voice is increasingly distinct, grounded in vulnerability and authenticity.
“Tales of a Lonesome Trapper, Pt. 1” is streaming now, giving listeners a four-track snapshot of an artist ready to expand his reach. Fans can connect with Shotta Kush on Instagram, Spotify, and YouTube for music videos, behind-the-scenes content, and updates on what’s next.
