Oklahoma City’s own J French steps back into the spotlight with “Able,” a new single and video built on resilience, self-belief, and the kind of inner strength that has shaped his career from the start. The multi-hyphenate rapper, producer, and creative force frames the track as a statement of purpose, doubling down on the themes of faith and self-mastery that run through his catalog.
“‘Able’ came from a place of clarity,” French says. “I wanted to create something that reminded people that everything they need to win is already inside them. The song and video show what happens when you stop doubting yourself and start moving with purpose.”
French didn’t just record the track; he directed the visual himself. The video features legendary producer and engineer Demetrius Shipp Sr., whose résumé stretches from 2Pac’s “Toss It Up” to standout records for B2K, Omarion, Bobby Brown, Teddy Riley, and early Kendrick Lamar and Ab-Soul. Shipp is also the father of actor Demetrius Shipp Jr., known for his role as Tupac Shakur in All Eyez on Me.
The “Able” video leans into crisp, cinematic storytelling, giving the message room to breathe. French centers the idea that strength comes from daily discipline, and the visual amplifies that theme with grounded imagery and intentional pacing.
Fans may remember French from his breakout single “Solo,” a track that became an NBA arena staple and the official closing song for the league’s YouTube series Pass the Rock, which highlights rising basketball prospects and the culture surrounding them. “Able” pushes that evolution further, blending personal conviction with polished production.
“It is not about being perfect,” French says. “It is about showing up and being ready in mind, body, and spirit. That is what makes you able.”
