There’s a specific kind of grit required to swap the Scottish rap scene for London’s crowded, often unforgiving landscape. While the journey usually demands a heavy dose of performative bravado, Rxmz is pivoting. Instead of doubling down on the loud, street-centric narratives that defined his earlier work, he’s building a new foundation on something far more fragile: the truth.
Fresh off the momentum of “Bro Code”, a track supported by Mixtape Madness that mapped the city’s darker corners, Rxmz is back with “On My Mind”. It marks a stark departure from the “toughness” typically found in the underground. Built around a melancholic vocal sample and a soulful, mid-tempo trap beat, the single channels the raw vulnerability of early Lil TJay.
This isn’t a track about the “glamour” of moving on. Instead, it’s an unfiltered deep dive into the wreckage of a recent breakup, capturing the “what ifs” and the sharp stings of regret that only surface in the small hours of the morning. In a genre that often treats invincibility as a requirement, Rxmz is finding his strength by leaning into his mistakes.
The road to this moment hasn’t been a straight line. Having spent more time in the studio than the spotlight, Rxmz only recently took the stage for his first-ever performance at Boxpark, courtesy of LDNRBS promotions. It was a trial-by-fire that seems to have paid off. The momentum is building as a slow-burn success, recently landing him a guest spot on DJ Rampant’s Hoxton Radio show and a slot on the ‘Hip Hop/Drill Waves’ Spotify playlist.
Rxmz isn’t rushing to claim the crown just yet. He’s the underdog from the North, quietly refining his craft and proving that even in the high-stakes world of trap, the most powerful tool an artist has is their own honesty.
