In a time when immigration enforcement continues to disrupt families and communities across the United States, artists are increasingly stepping forward as both cultural witnesses and organizers. In Minneapolis, where protests and grassroots organizing remain active, Indigenous and immigrant voices are turning to art not only to document this moment, but also to materially support resistance.
Minneapolis-based rapper, producer, and singer-songwriter Tufawon, born Rafael Gonzalez, recently released his new single, “No One Is Illegal,” which he produced himself. Through both his music and activism, Tufawon has dedicated his time and artistry to confronting the injustices of ICE and standing in solidarity with immigrant communities.

His album Gradient explores Indigenous existence across time, tracing a journey from creation to the present and into the future. “Indigenous people exist in every shade,” says Tufawon. “Long before colonization, we were trading, innovating, intermarrying, and influencing one another. This project is about who we are beyond that era. It highlights ancestral teachings through a contemporary medium.”
