Following a (24-13) lost to the Indianapolis Colts in the divisional round of the 2015 playoffs, the Denver Broncos and now former head coach John Fox have both parted ways.
According to ESPN,
The decision was made just hours after Fox had met with the Broncos’ players to cover the end-of-the season business.
Following that meeting cornerback Chris Harris Jr. said Fox told the players that “he just appreciated everybody’s efforts, he loved us and everybody just be smart in the offseason and make sure you take care of your body to be ready to come back ready to roll when OTAs start.”
The move comes a day after the Broncos were eliminated from the playoffs by the Indianapolis Colts, and a year after the team’s first appearance in a Super Bowl since John Elway, now the team’s general manager, retired as quarterback.
It was ultimately the team’s playoff record — 2-3 with two one-and-done exits, including Sunday’s 23-14 home loss to the Colts — that were difficult to digest for many with the team.
The separation ends Fox’s four-year tenure with the Broncos that saw the coach miss part of last season as he recovered from a heart procedure.
If you ask me, the Broncos are going to reach out to former coordinator Gary Kubiak who is a good friend of John Elway to become the new head coach of this team. The Broncos could go after the like of Adrian Peterson or DeMarco Murray and run the same system the Broncos ran with John Elway and Terrell Davis. Peyton Manning’s days in the NFL are numbered and his hopes at another Super Bowl are fading fast.
