MMG has partnered with Dina Marto’s Twelve Music Group for something that can be seriously major for the next upcoming artist.
First & foremost, the history behind Marto & Rozay’s relationship dates back to his start in the rap game when he was pulled out of Miami by the late Shakir Stewart, who at the time of his death, was the Senior VP At Island Def Jam Music Group & Executive VP of Def Jam.
I was signed to Def Jam by Jay-Z, and I was actually pulled out of Miami by a young man named Shakir Stewart—rest in peace. Shakir was one of the dudes that I got closest to in this game. I’d be calling Shake in the middle of the night, and he’d cut his phone off… The next morning he’d say, ‘Rozay, if you can’t get my phone, hit Dina.’ Me seeing her out here grinding, doing her thing, I feel it’s only right that she know she got family here.
Dina Marto is previously known for her works with L.A. Reid & managing Def Jam’s office in Atlanta. Her newfound partnership with the MMG label-boss is set to launch a new platform for musicians entitled “Artist First”. The purpose of this platform is to seek out a new MMG artist through a label-promoted talent search.
We’re launching a talent search for the next MMG artist. We gon’ do it big. We gon’ go through this Artist First platform.
On top of searching for new artistry, the coalition between the two company’s was also put in place to open a new MMG office in ATL at Twelve Music Group studios. Marto shed a bit of light on opening a new office in her interview with AllHipHop:
This is the new home for Maybach Music. Their artists will be recording here. Executives will have offices here, so they can get work done while they’re in the city of Atlanta.
Who’s got what it takes to be one of the new faces of MMG? Only time will tell once things get launched. Stay tuned as more details are revealed!
