Let’s define Independent, theres so many ways to do so:

not depending on another for livelihood or subsistence
capable of thinking or acting for oneself
The breakdown could go on.. But in essence, Troy Ave gave us this same exact intricate breakdown of his brand (which he presented very well during his visit) & how he moves. In the very beginning of he made it clear & make no mistake that he’s getting money. For everyone that tried clowning my mans (yes, I’m a fan), let’s do the math.
According to Billboard, the very detailed breakdown given by the only publication that wanted to “deal the facts”, as the NY native would say, the cards didn’t play out in Ave’s favor as far as numbers from his “first week sales” because of how he went about his release process.
Ave released the album on a Friday, whereas most artists typically launch their albums releases on a Tuesday, closing his gap for units sold physically & digitally. With the time alloted for his numbers to roll in, once they did for review, he had only sold 30 physical copies & less than 4500 digitally. Ave, obviously a emcee from the streets which is noted to the content of his music–that he’s very proud of & humble towards–used his interview with The Breakfast Club to break it down into money matters, which makes for sense to topic on conversation rather than dissing the guy for “flopping”.
After peeping this interview, you should probably have a little more repsect for the guy. He’s smart about his & after all, “It’s all about the Mother F*cking Money”.
