It’s never easy to start a career in the arts. It often takes sacrificing financial stability and going out all on your own to grow and thrive as a musician, painter, or artist. And even when you’ve started working in the field that you love, you might experience other hardships come your way. And the story is no different for hip-hop artist Jesus Brillo. While getting to where he is now has been a journey full of obstacles, he wouldn’t trade his success for the world.
Jesus Brillo is a thriving hip-hop artist born and brought up in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. He raps and sings in Spanish. His biggest hits are the songs “La Paca” and “Detecto La Dema.” The videos for each of these songs have gained over 2.5 million views, and he has over 12,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. “I rarely ever dreamt of having the success that I’ve achieved today,” Brillo said. “As a little kid in the Dominican Republic, I didn’t know if I could break out and become a hit.” He started creating music in 2016. However, during that same year, he had to put a halt to his musical career due to economic reasons. “I wanted to make a living with my music and follow my passion, but I didn’t have the money I needed to stay afloat. I had to pause creating music and concentrate on making money. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do.”
In addition to his work in the music industry, Jesus Brillo is an entrepreneur. He has two companies – Brillo Organic Investments and Brillo Center SRL. Brillo added, “Making money used to be hard for me. However, when I changed my money mindset and started living in abundance, I was able to break out of that financial spiral and become successful.”
From that moment on, Brillo was constantly thinking about his hip-hop career and how he could make music. He has two kids – a daughter who’s five and a son who’s only one month old. So, he had to find a way to care for them while living his dreams. He was able to come back onto the music scene in 2020, more ready than ever before to create a name for himself. He was able to get attention for his music locally in Santo Domingo, and he’s currently working to be well-known on the world stage. “I know I have what it takes to become famous. All I needed was to be able to live out of poverty and have the time and energy to create.” Brillo doesn’t have a record deal or a contract, so he does most of the work behind his music videos by himself. “I direct most of my music videos, write all of my own songs, and operate my music business independently. It’s a lot of hard work, but I know it will all pay off someday.”
While it’s never easy to strike out on your own, Jesus Brillo has found great success with his music and other companies. If you don’t give up on your dreams, even you might just be able to create the life you want.
