Drake takes the summer with his highly anticipated album called Certified Lover Boy, and the industry is in a frenzy. This is a usual reaction to Drake’s slated releases, but this time was grander. After the whole world has been in hiatus, Drake swoops back in with a timeless 21-track collective.
In August 2020, Drake mentioned the making of Certified Lover Boy during his release with Lil Durk for “Laugh Now Cry Later.” Fans believed it was slated to release in January 2021, but 8 months later, Drake takes the reigns with the official CLB album drop.
Amidst a re-triggered industry “feud” with Kanye West that originated back in 2008, Certified Lover Boy’s momentum grew higher and higher. The feud was reignited when Drake featured on Trippie Redd’s “Betrayal” — letting the fans know that “Ye ain’t changin’ shit for me, it’s set in stone.” Kanye reacted on his Instagram story with a slew of posts, and even a pin drop of Drake’s home address which has later been removed. Shortly after comes the music—and Certified Lover Boy is in fact, set in stone.
But feud aside, Certified Lover Boy has content so timeless that it would take a win without extra attention from alleged issues, or collaborations. But the collaborations Drake decided to put together, took it over the top. CLB is loaded, featuring fan-favorite artists like: Kid Cudi, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Ty Dolla $ign, Tems, 21 Savage, Giveon, Yebba, Project Pat, Future, Young Thug, City Girls, Jay-Z, Lil Baby, and Lil Durk. Even Nicki Minaj makes a cameo on track 2, Papi’s Home.
