LUCKI evolved from an underground hero to a mainstream success story without compromising his singular sound. Today, the Chicago rapper shares “Mubu,” the first music video from his brand new album s*x m*ney dr*gs. Produced by Bhristo and Kavi, who have multiple credits on the new album, along with ThankYouWill, “Mubu” is a skittering, soul-sampling highlight from the album, as LUCKI stacks his croaked, mantra-like rhymes between spritely keyboards and crisp handclaps: “You could jus’ man up, band up/Man up, band up/Young n****, it’s just your choice.” In the video, LUCKI alternates scenes from his home neighborhood in Chicago with high-rolling clips from life on tour, contrasting his humble past with his current rockstar lifestyle.
The follow-up to 2022’s successful, Billboard Top 20-charting FLAWLESS LIKE ME, s*x m*ney dr*gs is on track to be even bigger. Upon its release last Friday, LUCKI enjoyed the biggest streaming day career on Spotify, with over 8 million streams in 24 hours, and over 41.9 million streams across platforms in just three days. s*x m*ney dr*gs delves deeper into his world of hazy hedonism, at once reveling in the spoils of luxury living and bemoaning the emptiness of it all. s*x m*ney dr*gs spans 15 tracks, bringing new production from Tay Keith, Brent Rambo, Rio Leyva and CXDY of Internet Money, Cash Cobain, Yung Icey, and more. Featuring a guest appearance from Detroit native Veeze, s*x m*ney dr*gs is available everywhere via EMPIRE.
LUCKI carried the momentum from FLAWLESS LIKE ME into 2023, selling out the 25-date, nationwide “FLAWLESS LIKE ME: The Made Martian Tour” in the winter and spring. LUCKI plans to hit the road again this summer, as the primary support on Trippie Redd’s “Take Me Away Tour,” embarking in late August.
With s*x m*ney dr*gs out now, the proud Chicago native plans to complete his evolution from cult figure to mainstream concern. Stay tuned for more music and videos from Tune this year.
