Ervin Mitchell is back delivering the utmost quality that contemporary lyricism has to offer. Fresh off the release of his new EP :”So Far So Great”, The Atlanta lyricist has successfully maintained a dominance within the sphere of hip-hop that focuses on substance. Ervin along with his management team – Stream Lord have worked to create a memorable and dynamic EP. Many tracks off the new EP feel contemporary. The production is immersive. The mix quality is industry standard, and the verbage and hunger heard in Ervin’s performances is to be marveled. The opening track “New Space” has an immersive energy. Ervin describes his intent with “The people been needing a change.” This is a popular theme seen throughout Ervin’s music. Mitchell often references various aspects of contemporary culture and describes methods for change. The “Rain Man” track definitely offers us a deeper look into the mind and psyche of Ervin Mitchell. He draws the parallel between a prayer and an old ritual used to summon water in times of drought – a rain dance. As the listener, we are unsure if Ervin is questioning his faith or doubling down on it. On Track 4 “Legend”, Ervin Mitchell tags Boregard and The Letter M for the collaboration. This track feels like a dynamic look into the multifaceted nature of contemporary hip hop. Each artist has a completely different approach to the song, but each approach combines to create a fire record. On the next track, Ervin Mitchell delivers the best bars on the album. “Noah’s Ark” is nothing short of a masterclass on how to rap with presence. In just under 32 bars, Ervin offers one of the best freestyles of 2023. Track 6 – “First Game Back” is another hit record with great production and a catchy hook. Track 7 & 8 feel like great outro tracks. In just 8 tracks, Ervin Mitchell manages to demonstrate the essence of contemporary lyricism.
