What is the inspiration behind Shaoliiin Ent?
Kvne: “Starting off as an independent artist [myself], I realized that there was a lack of representation for upcoming artists in the music industry. So, I started a media company for artists by artists. Shaoliiin stands for a monastery where artists across the world can come share and learn new skills in a peaceful environment while chasing higher levels. Real representation of real art by real people.”
As a platform owner / founder yourself — what’s your take on Hip-Hop media at the moment?
Kvne: “Hip-Hop media is over saturated with scandalous story lines instead of the actual evolution of the art. But if you’re dedicated.. you can find what you’re actually looking for; The music. It’s cut throat. There are gate keepers and black listers. Everybody wants the most viral story no matter how they get it. There are some pioneers in the Hip-Hop media game and I’m grateful but they’re dying off fast and starting to become few and far between. There are some up-comers that are making an impact as well with potential to move the needle back towards the art of hip hop. I just want to do my part to put the magnifying glass back on the creativity.”
Media has changed and continues to change. How do you pivot and keep up with everyone else?
Kvne: “Cover everything. The good and the bad. Although the bad may be hard to hear and watch at times, everything that happens in this culture is the culture. Next, Staying on the scene is key. Hitting functions, shaking hands, make lasting impressions and following through will take you to new levels. 6 degrees of off separation. That means that you may only be six steps or six people away from the place or person that can elevate your brand.”
Since the platform launched, you have interviewed some major names — who are some others on your bucket list?
Kvne: “Man… J. Cole for sure.. Vlad TV who is a big inspiration of mine… Lloyd Banks.. Andre 3k.. Joey Badass.. and of course Method Man and Ghostface Killah to make it all full circle.”
What can your supporters expect from Shaoliiin in 2024?
Kvne: “We interviewing every upcoming artist in New York! Nobody slipping through the cracks! We are launching a freestyle series so tune in. We will have festivals, private parties, merchandise and even an award show at the end of the year!”
Where do you see Shaoliiin Ent in 5 years?
Kvne: “Honestly the sky is the limit. I see us being much more involved in discovering, cultivating and breaking artists. Anything that we can do to keep innovative independent artistry alive. I can see us moving into distribution and artist management. Hosting annual festivals with thousands of attendees. Merchandise on everybody’s bodies.”
