Red Bull Batalla, the world’s largest Spanish-language freestyle competition, crowned Reverse as the 2023 U.S. National Champion in Dallas over the weekend. Marcos Daniel Acosta, better known as Reverse, is a 20-year-old Cuban born MC residing in Florida and now a two-time Red Bull Batalla U.S. champion, having first won the stateside portion of the competition in 2021. The anticipated event featured what was arguably the most talented set of MCs to face off in a U.S. event, and now the attention will shift to the approaching World Final scheduled for December 2nd at the Movistar Arena in Bogotá, Colombia.
On Saturday, 2,000 fans lined up at Gilley’s Dallas to witness the 16 bracket-style, 1v1 battles that would determine the next U.S. champion. The competition was hosted by Racso White Lion and a panel of judges that included Venezuelan freestyle royalty and 4x Latin Grammy nominated artist Akapellah, alongside international freestyle scene icons Skiper, Chester, Moises and Barba. Following the winning moment, attendees and MCs alike were treated to special performances by Akapellah and rising Texas rapper, Peso Peso.
Reverse will join 2022 U.S. Champion Oner to represent the U.S. in Colombia at the World Final, marking the first time in Red Bull Batalla history where two MCs will represent the U.S. on the international stage.
