For the third and final single taken from Why-D’s forthcoming LP, The Work of a Doloist, the emcee/producer pays homage to hip-hop’s Golden Era and his hometown of Malmö, Sweden in his raw, black-and-white video for “Dolo the Icon (Malmoe, Malmoe).”

The video was filmed on location in the southern outskirts of the Swedish city, a place where many people live in poverty and some, as a result, resort to a life of crime. For Why-D, he saw an opportunity to shed light on his former stomping grounds, as well as provide a follow-up to his previous Malmö anthem, 2003’s “Rock Island (Dirty South Anthem).”

“I was born and raised here,” Why-D explains. “Malmö will always be me, whether I like it or not, whether it’s good or bad.” It’s an honest depiction of his hometown, and he pairs it lyrically and visually with references to the ‘80s and ‘90s as well as hip-hop legends like LL Cool J, the Notorious B.I.G., and Prodigy. And as a nice bonus for fans who peep the extended version, Why-D put together a dope outro for “Dolo the Icon” that features more footage of Malmö paired with a moody instrumental.
