In the competitive landscape of entrepreneurship, Mark Sanders, Jr., widely known as CEO Mark Savage, stands as a beacon of innovation and resilience. From his humble beginnings as a college student with a passion for ghostwriting, Savage has evolved into a celebrated business leader, BMI Award Winner, and Best Selling Author. His journey is a compelling testament to the power of creativity, determination, and staying true to one’s values.
When asked about his approach to decision-making, particularly in selecting projects that align with both his company’s values and market demands, Savage’s response is refreshingly authentic. “I go with my heart,” he says. “Whatever is on my soul when I write scripts, music, or produce, I go with that. It comes out way better that way. I never structure my business around making money; it’s about the creativity and rawness of life.” This philosophy has been a guiding principle throughout his career, ensuring that his work remains genuine and impactful.
Savage’s path to success was not without challenges. In 2018, alongside his fraternity brother Trey Durr, he ventured into real estate, marking the start of his entrepreneurial journey. Despite financial constraints and the pressures of balancing Corporate America with his personal ambitions, Savage’s unwavering belief in his vision led to the establishment of Royalty Entertainment LLC, where he found significant success in the music industry. His leadership role at Durr Capital Group, a multi-million-dollar real estate firm, further solidified his reputation as a dynamic entrepreneur.
A pivotal moment in Savage’s career occurred while ghostwriting for Full Sail University. He wrote a song that a particular artist took mainstream, but he only received $500 for it. “To this day, that taught me ownership and law,” Savage reflects. “Never jump into a business without learning what you’re getting into. That’s what Royalty Entertainment is. That’s what Durr Capital Group is. Honest, aggressive scholars.” This lesson became a cornerstone of his business philosophy, emphasizing the importance of understanding and controlling one’s creative output.
As a screenwriter, Savage is acutely aware of the evolving landscape of the film industry, particularly with the rise of streaming platforms. He believes that these platforms have benefited creators by providing more opportunities for independent filmmakers to thrive. “With the evolution of smart TVs and platforms like Tubi, independent filmmakers can make great money while staying true to their brands,” Savage explains. “My company loves being able to reach independent directors for films. We can eliminate the middleman and do films how we want and when we want.”
Looking to the future, Savage acknowledges the role of technology in filmmaking, particularly the impact of artificial intelligence. While he sees the potential benefits for directors, he remains cautious. “I see AI taking a huge role in creating films, which directors can benefit from, but I believe it’ll take the life out of films,” Savage says. “My goal is to follow technology and advance with it, but also to show that my skills can’t be imitated by a machine.”
In every project, Savage stays true to the cultures and perspectives that shape his work. “Just being myself because I am the culture. I was raised in it and lived it,” he asserts. “It’s in a first-person form when it comes from me. That’s why the people support it and respect it. It’s the authenticity, not gimmicks.”
CEO Mark Savage’s journey is more than just a story of business success; it’s a narrative of personal growth, creative triumph, and the enduring power of authenticity. From his early days at Full Sail University to his current status as a 5x award-winning screenwriter and successful entrepreneur, Savage’s story serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when you follow your passion, stay true to your values, and embrace the challenges along the way.
