Born in Harlem and shaped by the pulse of New York City, Allen F. Perry has always seen hip-hop as more than a genre—it’s a strategy, a survival guide, and a stepping stone to success. From his days spitting bars on the stage of the iconic B.B. King’s in Times Square to being featured in Vibe Magazine back in 2007, Perry’s evolution from artist to educator has always been rooted in purpose.
But the biggest bars he ever wrote weren’t for a song—they were the blueprint behind Hip-Hop 4 Freshmen, a curriculum that fuses the culture of hip-hop with real-world education in entrepreneurship, branding, and financial literacy.
Perry didn’t just imagine a better way to engage the youth—he built it. Armed with two master’s degrees in Entertainment Business and Digital Marketing, he launched a self-help guide that grew into a full-blown program for teenagers and young adults. Since 2019, Perry’s curriculum has transformed classrooms at Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy, Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts in Harlem, Brooklyn Law and Technology High School, Common Point Community Center in Queens, and Mosholu Montefiore Community Center in the Bronx.
Hip-Hop 4 Freshmen is about turning passion into profit. From understanding copyright to crafting a personal brand, Perry equips students with tools to thrive—not just survive—in today’s digital world. In 2023, he dropped Volume 2, adding 250+ pages of updated content designed to make business lessons hit just as hard as a dope 16.
In 2024, Perry donated 1,600 books to students across the city, with the full support of Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson’s office—further solidifying his impact on NYC youth.
This isn’t just a class—it’s a movement. And now, it’s got a soundtrack. Perry’s official theme song, “Entrepreneur,” is the anthem for future moguls. Tap in at www.hiphop4freshmen.com to learn more.
