Rising independent artist Swan Paradise has released Black Ivy, a bold and deeply personal collection of 27 demo songs that reflect not only his artistry but also his resilience in the face of loss, transition, and reinvention.

Unlike most studio albums polished to perfection, Black Ivy thrives on authenticity. Each song was recorded in the intimate setting of his grandmother’s house, during a turbulent period in his life when Swan Paradise was forced to leave one of his childhood homes and most of his sentimental belongings behind. Out of that chaos came music that, while born from pain, radiates resilience and creative freedom.

“Making music felt like the only thing keeping me alive,” Swan Paradise shares. “What surprises me now is that none of these demos sound sad or depressing, even though that’s exactly how I felt. Instead, they carry an energy that reflects resilience, creativity, and the search for light when everything around me felt heavy.”

A One-Man Creative Force

Swan Paradise has been cultivating his sound independently since 2017, producing, arranging, writing, performing, and engineering all of his music himself. With Black Ivy, that independence shines brighter than ever. Every sound, lyric, and mix is entirely his own creation, demonstrating a self-reliance that is not only rare but also deeply integral to his identity as an artist.

“I don’t just make songs—I build them,” he explains. “From shaping every detail to watching them come alive, that’s where I find joy. The process itself is the purest form of expression I know.”

The Meaning Behind Black Ivy

The title draws inspiration from the “Black Ivy” style and Jason Jules’ book of the same name. For Swan Paradise, the phrase symbolizes elegance, spirit, and energy—a perfect reflection of the mindset he carried into these recordings.

“I wanted the name to capture both my influences and the energy I was holding while creating this project,” he says. “It felt like a mirror of the journey.”

Black Ivy is not just an album—it’s the start of a series. Much like his earlier demo tapes, this installment is both a document of growth and a stepping stone toward future fully-realized works. Already, Swan Paradise is planning Black Ivy 2, with songs that didn’t make the first cut but remain close to his heart.

Looking Ahead

While Black Ivy feels raw and reflective, Swan Paradise assures listeners that the next phase of his artistry will be expansive and transformative. The release of these demos clears a path for him to create something monumental—music that not only reflects where he’s been but where he’s headed.

“What comes next won’t just be more songs,” he says. “It will be something refreshing, exciting, and transformative. I want to make music that feels alive with new energy.”

Influences and Aspirations

Drawing inspiration from boundary-pushing artists like Tyler, the Creator and Pharrell Williams, Swan Paradise hopes to one day collaborate with them—two visionaries whose creative freedom resonates with his own.
