In every generation, there are artists who don’t wait for the industry to validate them, they outwork the system and build their own lane. For Oakland powerhouse Ms. Kash, that mentality has shaped her entire trajectory. As she prepares to drop her debut album In My Bag on November 22, she’s proving that real success comes from discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering belief in your purpose.
Kash doesn’t move like an artist chasing a moment. She moves like someone creating one. Her approach has always been intentional, grounded in the understanding that ownership isn’t just a business model, but a form of protection.
“I could’ve signed my first recording contract at 17,” she tells HipHopSince1987. “I chose not to forfeit my creative control because it’s not about the money for me. This is God’s gift to me, and I’m not willing to let anyone else own or control that but me.”
That commitment shows up in every part of her grind. While fans see the polished results, the visuals, the interviews, the momentum, they rarely see the weight she carries behind the scenes to keep everything moving.
“I’m pushing out all this music while holding down a full-time job, flying back and forth for press runs, award shows, photo shoots, videos — and being a football mom,” she says. “That’s why I live by the motto, ‘Make it happen, or make excuses.’”
This is where In My Bag becomes more than just an album title. It’s a lifestyle. A mission. A testament to navigating life, career, and motherhood without losing focus or passion. And for other independent artists watching her journey, Kash offers the kind of real, grounded advice that only comes from experience.
“Everyone’s journey is different,” she explains. “I stay motivated by looking at all the progress I’ve made on my own — from building a solid fan base to watching my royalty checks increase consistently. It’s not easy, but it’s been worth it.”
In My Bag reflects every sacrifice, every late-night session, every moment of self-doubt turned into self-belief. It’s the sound of an artist who refused to rush her path, and now arrives with purpose, proof, and power.
On November 22, Ms. Kash isn’t just releasing a debut album. She’s showing the culture what hustle really looks like, exclusively on MsKashMusic.com.
