The 2012-2013 season is deep into the playoffs and all of the individual awards have been voted on and won and one award stood out to me that I didn’t agree with and that was NBA Coach of the year. This year’s coach of the year award was won by Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl who coached his team to a (57-25) record with no true superstar. Karl was a good coach this season but I don’t think any coach did a better job with thier team then Golden State head coach Mark Jackson. Check out the top 5 reason Jackson should have won the award.

5.)  Mark Jackson’s time out and halftime motivational speeches: No coach in the league understands how to communicate with his players like Jackson. Often it’s hard to tell if Jackson will delivery a I have a Dream type speech or break it down like Jake preparing Jesus for Ball State.

4.)Mentoring Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Jarrett Jack: Jackson was once a great point guard bred in NYC’s tough school yards who not only understands the game from a PG’s point of view he use to dish the rock to Reggie Miller one of the sharpest shooters the NBA has ever witnessed. Jackson has already put the weigh of the world on Curry and Thompson calling them the greatest shooting backcourt in NBA history but who better to make that call then him. Jackson has learned how to enforce his former style of play into his three young guards and his rookie forward Harrison Barnes.

3.) Reviving the basket ball culture in the bay area: Winning normally is recipe for fans to forget the past but it was just last year that Warrior fans were booing their owner on national t.v. for not producing a winning team. Oracle Arena is now again one of the worst arenas for opposing teams to try to escape with a victory in. Much of that is because of the mentality Jackson is enforcing in his young team.

2.) Turning a (23-43) lottery team into a (47-35) 6th seed in the playoffs: Yea it’s true the 2011-2012 was a short 66 game season but the Warriors were horrible that season. Jackson has established order and formed a winning culture in just a few months. Not only did the Warriors make the playoffs, his team sent Karl’s Nuggets fishing for the year.

1.)Adjusting to the life of a NBA head coach: This time last year Mark Jackson was entertaining NBA fans with his analyst on ESPN. With no prior coaching experience Jackson seemed to have it all under control. He has coached his team in to the postseason and now are searching for a NBA Title.
