Despite all the controversy and turmoil he’s been through over the past two years, Chris Brown has come out on top, earning his first #1 album of his career with F.A.M.E..
The album, Brown’s fourth, topped the Billboard 200 this week, selling 270,000 in its first week. It’s the singer’s fourth straight top 10, following his self-titled debut (#2, 2005),Exclusive (#4, 2007), and Graffiti (#7, 2009).
With 270K sold, F.A.M.E. give Brown his second-best sales week ever, only Exclusivesold more in a week with 294,000.
Behind Breezy is Jennifer Hudson’s sophomore effort, I Remember Me, landing at #2 with 165,000. It matches what she did with her 2008 self-titled debut, which also entered at #2, but had a larger first-week: 217,000.
Gospel singer Kirk Franklin came in at the #5 slot with Hello Fear, which sold 87,000 — his best week since 2002’s The Rebirth of Kirk Franklindebuted at #4 with 91,000.
At #6 is the digital-exclusive charity compilation, Songs For Japan, selling 68,000; Bobby V’s Fly On the Wall opens at #9, selling with 38,000; and Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers descends from #3 last week to #10, selling another 29,000 to put his total at 280,000 thus far.
Outside the top 10 is Marsha Ambrosious’ Late Nights & Early Mornings, coming in at #16 with 25,000 sold; and Rihanna’s Loud lands at #17 with just under 25,000 sold this week.
The last new release in the top 20 was Gucci Mane’s Return of Mr. Zone 6, opening at #18 with 25,000 sold its first week. And outside the top tier is Pharoahe Monch’s W.A.R. (We Are Renegades)selling 9,700 to start and open at #54.

According to Billboard.com, overall album sales in this past chart week (ending March 27) totaled 6.48 million units, up 13% compared to the sum last week (5.71 million) and up 7% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010 (6.03 million).
