jayz Magna Carta Holy Grail Forces RIAA To Update Certification Policies

When Jay-Z talks everybody listens. Solidifying Hov’s #newrules tag, the RIAA officially has updated it’s certification policies. What exactly has been amended ? Well, it all started last month when Samsung announced that it would purchase 1M copies of Carter’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album unfortunately the album wouldn’t be platinum upon release due to the fact that RIAA certification is only available 30 days after a project’s release date. Earlier today, the RIAA revisited the conversation and Liz Kennedy, Director, Communications and Gold & Platinum Program announced “Going forward, sales of albums in digital format will become eligible on the release date, while sales of albums in physical format will still become eligible for certification 30 days after the release date,” (riaa.com). The industry is clear it doesn’t want No New Friends but new rules are clearly perfectly fine.
