Philly’s own Danny “Swift” Garcia took the stage in Las Vegas, Nevada last night as he faced Lucas Matthysse in the WBC/WBA/RING junior welterweight championship bout for all the marbles. Toward the middle of the fight, many so called boxing experts began to believe Danny was losing his edge and would lose the match but after a wake up call from his father, Danny showed the world what the heart of a champion from the city of brotherly love is made of. Garcia and Matthysse battled the entire 12 rounds however despite Matthysse showing the heart of a warrior, Garcia showed he was too skilled and won by unanimous decision (114-112, 115-111, 114-112). After the bout Garcia celebrated his victory by saying “I’m the champion of the world, I’m not scared of anyone,” “If you can make it out of Philadelphia, you can make it anywhere”.
