First off, thanks for my boy DJ Booth for passing this along. In a shocking twist, Bobby Valentino expressed the notion that he has departed ways from both Def Jam and his long time label, Disturbing the Peace.
“The decision to leave [the label] was totally mine,” said Valentino. “I sat down with Ludacris and Chaka Zulu, and I explained to them that it was time for me to venture out on my own. They had no problem with it; they are cool with it, no beef at all.”
Is any broken relationship with a label really amicable? Valentino told Booth that he was frustrated with the constant delays for his latest album, “Special Occasion” – which, in turn, led to poor album sales.
This is also a shocking revelation considering he was slated to drop an EP called “Come With Me” in the coming weeks. The disc would have contained the radio-friendly song “Your Smile,” which features Mr. Lollipop himself, Lil Wayne.
In my opinion there’s ALWAYS more that has gone on behind the scenes than an artist would like to share, but I guess we’ll never know until we hit that juncture. Bobby V. and Luda have been a great team over the years…hope they can reconnect on some future projects, regardless of label status.
