darrelle-revis-jets Jet Lag: Jets DB Revis Out For Season With Torn ACL

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan announced earlier today that All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that will require surgery, likely meaning Revis will miss the rest of the season.

After missing the week 2 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a concussion, Revis was back in uniform Sunday against the Miami Dolphins but that may be this last time Jets fans see Revis in a Jets’ uniform this season. During the third quarter of yesterday’s game while attempting to make a tackle Revis’ leg was planted wrong and as a result Revis’ fell awkwardly grabbing at his knee before hitting the ground.

The lost of Revis is a huge blow for the Jets, who will now be without their best player and perhaps the NFL’s top shutdown cornerback. Kyle Wilson, the team’s first-round draft pick in 2010, will now step into Revis’ starting role opposite Antonio Cromartie. Rex Ryan stated that the Jets aren’t in panic mode but if Rex isn’t there yet I’ll give him a few more weeks and we’ll revisit that.
Revis will be 28 years old when he returns for the 2013 season, and as long as he’s fully healthy, should have many more outstanding seasons. The Jets next week 4 matchup is a home game against Alex Smith and the 2-1 San Francisco 49ers.
